Does your child need to bring a snack to school? It's so easy to just grab a granola bar or some Goldfish and throw them in the backpack because we're always in a rush. If our kids are using their brain power to learn new things constantly, then their brain and body need a nutricious snack to get them till the next meal. Some snacks will actually make it harder for them to concentrate and focus on their learning. Teachers have seen some crazy snacks...donuts, chocolate bars, packaged cake, handful of Halloween candy, packaged muffins, cookies, and pop tarts.
I know it's hard to think of healthy snacks, so I made a list to get us started. Once kids begin eating healthy snacks, they will enjoy them and eat them more freely.
Fresh Fruit that is easy to eat at their desk and won't make a mess: apple slices, grapes cut in half (to avoid them choking on them), sliced strawberries, a banana, etc.
Veggies: carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers
Baggie of plain Popcorn
Nuts, Trail Mix, Peanut Butter (as long as there's not a food allergy in the classroom or grade level- check with the teacher first to make sure you're allowed to send nuts or peanut butter to school.)
Cheese: stick, string, Babybel, or my favorite- Tillamook Cheddar Cheese Snack
Beef Sticks- Grass Fed Original Beef and Sugar Free
Crackers- 100% Whole Grain
Half a Sandwich
Hummus and Baby Carrots
Some snacks that I would avoid include, cheesy crackers- Goldfish, yogurts, granola bars, chips, apple sauce, fruit snacks, and fruit pouches.
Keep in mind that kids might still be working while they're eating their snack, so send snacks that are not too messy and don't require silverware. Save the healthy messy snacks for their after school snack.
These are two snacks that I've been loving lately. These are great healthy snacks for kids...and/or for parents.
I found them on Amazon. If I go by Whole Foods, I will buy several bags of the popcorn though. Here's the link to the popcorn if you want to check it out. Here is the link to the beef sticks.
Happy snacking,
Angie
