Healthy After School Snacks

Do your kids come home after school starving? Usually snack time at school is in the morning and they don't eat anything else after lunch, so they are starving by the time they get home.


I try to have some after school snacks ready. I try to make sure these snacks are different than their school snacks, just to not get bored eating the same snack. So, let's brainstorm on some ideas for healthy snacking.


  • Fruit- juicy fruit that I don't send to school such as peaches, mangoes, or cherries

  • Fruit Smoothie- fresh or frozen fruit and no added sugar

  • Plain unsweetened yogurt with cottage cheese

  • Hard boiled eggs

  • Avocado toast

  • Peanut butter toast

  • Carrot sticks and hummus

  • Apples and peanut butter

  • Nuts- especially if they are prohibited at school due to food allergies
