Life cycles are one of children's favorite life science activities! With this Bundle of Life Cycle activities, students will learn to investigate the different stages of life for some organisms. I think their favorite one is the life cycle of the butterflies, but they also love everything that has to do with insects.
The Life cycle of a Butterfly is a topic that all students love! Who doesn't like butterflies? Students will learn the 4 stages of the life cycle of a butterfly, egg, larva, pupa, and adult. To give students the full experience, you can purchase a butterfly garden (which is just a mesh cage) and some live caterpillars to put inside the garden. Your students can observe and record the daily changes of the caterpillars. They will love to look at them throughout the day. In this unit, I have included different activities for students. You will find activites for math, language, science, and mini books.
In the Insects unit, students will have the opportunity to not only investigate at the life cycle of the insects, but also compare the different insects. Students will take a peek at many of the different insects found in the natural world. Don't forget to take your students on an insect hunt! They love to explore and find different kinds of insects.
To reinforce their learning on life cycles, students can compare the butterflies to the ladybugs. If you teach about ladybugs in the spring, students can go on a ladybug hunt. You will find activites for math language, science, and mini books in these units to supplement your curriculum.
Finally, another favorite theme for life cycles is bees! Although kids don't chase bees like they do butterflies and ladybugs, they are beautiful insects to learn about and compare.
All of these units are also available in Spanish for Bilingual and Spanish teachers.
Happy Planning,
Angie
